How To Wrap a Pallet to Prevent Load Shifting and Product Damage

Pallet Wrapping

At The Pallet Wrap Store, we know how important it is to keep your goods safe during storage and transport. If your products shift or get damaged on the way to your customers, it can cost time, money, and your reputation. That’s why properly wrapping is as important as the products you send. We often get asked how to wrap a pallet to prevent items from moving or falling. Here’s a simple, effective way to do it and the tools we recommend to get the job done right.

Why Wrapping Matters

When done correctly, wrapping a pallet helps hold the load tightly. It reduces the risk of movement, keeps items stable, and protects everything from dust, dirt, and weather. Proper wrapping can make all the difference, whether you’re storing goods in a warehouse or sending them across the country.

Choose the Right Film

We offer a wide range of pallet wraps to suit different needs. Our clear hand stretch film is great for general use, and our black stretch film helps protect valuable goods by keeping them hidden. Our machine pallet wrap ensures a tight hold with consistent tension for larger loads.

We stock mini rolls for smaller items and spiral wraps for awkward shapes. If you wrap pallets daily, a dispenser will help you operate more efficiently and prevent accidents.

Step-by-Step: How to Wrap a Pallet for Shipping

  1. Start with a Stable Load

Ensure the items are stacked evenly and not hanging over the sides of the pallet. Try to keep the top as flat as possible.

  • Secure the Wrap at the Base

Pull a length of film and tie it or tuck it into the base of the pallet. This gives you a strong anchor point.

  • Wrap the Bottom Layers First

Walk around the pallet and wrap the bottom two or three times. Stretch the film tightly as you go. This keeps the load fixed to the pallet.

  • Move Upwards with Overlap

Continue wrapping upwards, overlapping each layer by about 50%. Pull the film tight but not so tight that it crushes the boxes.

  • Secure the Top

Once you reach the top, go around twice or thrice, then work halfway back down to finish.

  • Tear and Press

Tear the film and press it against the wrap to seal. If you’re using tacky film, it will stick to itself.

Our Top Tips

  • Don’t leave gaps between layers.
  • Use corner protectors if your load has sharp edges.
  • For tall loads, wrap over the top if needed.
  • Use coloured film to identify different shipments.
